Lucio Pensiero, a new wine dedicated to the vision of Lucio Tasca d'Almerita

There are people who can see possibilities before they become clear to others.

Lucio Tasca d’Almerita was one of them.

He looked far ahead, without ever losing touch with reality. He imagined what did not yet exist and had the quiet determination to put his ideas to the test.

«Eyes to the stars and feet on the ground» was a quote he often repeated to his children,
grandchildren and colleagues. More than a motto, it was a way of approaching life.

This is how Lucio Pensiero came to life: a project by Tasca d’Almerita dedicated to Lucio Tasca
d’Almerita and his way of looking to the future.

Not a commemoration, but a way to carry his vision forward.

Regaleali, roots and experimentation

If there is one place where this vision took shape, it is Tenuta Regaleali.

of soil, a complex patchwork of vineyard exposures and strong
diurnal shifts.

But above all, Regaleali is the place where, since 1830, each
generation has inherited the responsibility of caring for the land
and the freedom to see it with new eyes.

Here, in 1959, Giuseppe Tasca d’Almerita planted Nero d’Avola
and Perricone on the San Lucio hill, giving rise to Rosso del
Conte, Sicily’s first single-vineyard wine.

Here, in 1984, Lucio Tasca d’Almerita chose to plant Cabernet
Sauvignon and Chardonnay, at a time when imagining an
international future for Sicilian wine meant seeing something
others could not yet see.

And, here today, the Tasca d’Almerita family carries that vision
forward, giving it new form through a new project.

A vision that becomes wine.

This is how Lucio Pensiero comes to life.

Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon: three international grape varieties that take on a distinctive identity through Regaleali’s altitude, diurnal temperature shifts and complex mosaic of soils and vineyard exposures.

Not a classic Bordeaux-style blend, but the expression of a true winegrowing monopole, capable of reinterpreting these varieties through its own distinctive character.

An elegant wine, precisely balanced, with delicate floral notes and subtle freshness.

Not a disruption from the past, but a continuation of it.
A new interpretation of the vision that, in the 1980s, led Lucio to imagine what international grape varieties could become in Sicily, long before others did.
The label was born from this same idea.

Lucio’s silhouette stands with his eyes lifted to the sky and his feet firmly planted on Cozzo delle Ginestre, the hill at Regaleali he loved most.
Eyes to the stars and feet on the ground.

From Rome to Regaleali

The project was first unveiled on September 14 in Rome, at Pandolfini Auction House, ahead of the exclusive auction where Lucio Pensiero will go under the hammer in 2027.

On September 16, it returned to the place where it all began: Regaleali, where we welcomed international partners from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States.

Two different moments to tell the story of the same project: first, in the place that will introduce it to the world, and then in the place where it all began.

Where to discover Lucio Pensiero.

The way Lucio Pensiero will reach its audience also reflects the spirit of the project.

With 5,580 numbered bottles produced, the wine will not follow traditional distribution channels. Small quantities will be allocated through direct, personal relationships to a carefully selected group of restaurants, while large-format bottles (1,5 L, 3 L and 5 L) will take center stage at an exclusive auction at Pandolfini Auction House in 2027.

A deliberate choice that keeps Lucio Pensiero outside the conventions of widespread distribution and remains true to its nature: a wine created for a select few places and encounters, each chosen individually.

A DOCUMENTARY SHORT: THE WAGNER GIFT

A vision can take many forms.

In 1881, Richard Wagner, hosted by the Tasca d’Almerita family at Villa Tasca, composed Tempo di Porazzi and gave the handwritten score to Countess Tasca d’Almerita. For more than 140 years, the manuscript remained in the family’s care.

It was Alessandro Tasca, Alberto’s son and Lucio’s grandson, who decided to bring it back to life.

He invited two German artists, Boris Steffen and Gregor Schönborn, to Regaleali and entrusted them with the score. Over several days, the two musicians immersed themselves in life on the estate, transformed one of its spaces into a temporary recording studio, and reinterpreted Wagner’s composition through the language of electronic music.

Their creative journey became The Wagner Gift, a documentary short following the creation of the new composition through to its final performance at Cozzo delle Ginestre.

A musical score preserved for more than a century becomes a source of new cultural expression.

This is where The Wagner Gift and Lucio Pensiero come together: in the belief that heritage is not something to be preserved unchanged, but something to be reinterpreted, transformed, and passed on to future generations.
